Notes: That was fucking hard, easily the hardest thus far. I actually beat this on exactly my 100th attempt! It's often whenever I take this long to grind a map that I start getting diminishing returns and am no longer playing because I'm having fun but simply because I really want to beat the map. I didn't have that experience here though and found that this map struck a good balance between intense challenge and very fun fights, mostly focused on cramped fighting with a HEAVY dosing of archviles at almost any chance possible. Once you get past the green arena that fills with imps and waves of archviles the map eases in difficulty a bit (This fight is definitely the hardest). The square arena with the mancubus is weird, and I'm still not 100% certain what causes all of the enemies to wake up. Avoiding shooting the plasma gun (or any gun) while crossing in or out of the black sections seems to help though. This fight can be taken one side at a time without too much pain but its easy to wake everything up and have a giant problem on your hands especially if you don't do it in the right order, I fucked up in the middle of it anyways. The last arena is actually really fucking cool and is surprisingly consistent!! I love this gimmick and I found myself practicing it just for fun even when I didn't need to. I had a TON of close calls at the end when I went back for cleanup, I'm very lucky not to have died lol. This is a really fantastic map and while I think there have been better and more unique maps visually, I had a lot of fun maxing this, especially since this kind of reserved and cramped slaughter gameplay isnt what I usually excel at in comparison to the more full throttle "Junkfood-esque" slaughtermaps. I do think that the secret is a bit oddly placed, there's not a very good spot to grab it in your run. I usually grab it in the second lap around i do at the end of the map to kill the Cyberdemons, which is the previously mentioned place where I had repeated close calls.
Lastly, I could see an argument made for this being moved into Marine tier but I think this is definitely comfortable in the Veteran tier as this is a very noticeable step up from anything previously in the wad. It's one of the hardest maps I've ever maxed for sure, of around the same caliber of the last 3 Sunlust maps.
